Matrix bands are used as an aid for creating dental restorations. They are placed around a tooth with the help of a matrix retainer.
The matrix band and the matrix retainer are used for interdental restorations. The matrix band is placed around the tooth and holds the filling material until it hardens. The matrix band is then removed and the filling is polished into the ideal shape.
