The overbite describes the relationship of the position of the upper and lower teeth. An overbite is generally not a malocclusion. Only when the positional relationship of the teeth deviates from the norm it becomes a malocclusions in the sense of “overbite” and “overjet” as well as “end-to-end bite” and “cross bite”.
Contrary to the medical definition, the term “overbite” is used colloquially for protruding teeth.
