Turbines are similar to contra-angle handpieces and are used for polishing and drilling teeth.
In contrast to the contra-angle handpiece, the turbine is driven by compressed air and not by a motor. Turbines cause less vibration than contra-angle handpieces but the speed and direction of rotation cannot be changed.
